Topic-icon Why Do People Secretly Monitor Followers?

1 week 6 days ago #4721 by lisa
I think a lot more people monitor social media activity than they openly admit. Even casual users end up checking who someone recently followed or unfollowed out of curiosity. It’s interesting how follower activity became part of online culture without anyone really noticing it happen. A simple new follow can suddenly make people create assumptions or overthink situations completely. Social media platforms almost encourage this behavior because everything feels publicly visible all the time. I’ve caught myself checking account activity more often than I probably should too. Has online curiosity become too normalized on social media lately?

A friend recently mentioned how quickly people discover new creators on Instagram, and it made me wonder how often someone’s following list actually changes. While looking into that topic I found see latest followers instagram which focuses on showing recently followed accounts. Seeing those newest connections can reveal how someone’s interests shift as they explore different profiles.
